Weleda Tinted Lip Balms..

Weleda launched their new Tinted Lip Balms a few months ago and they’ve been going down so well. There are three colours to choose from – from the bottom of the swatch up – Nude, Rose and Berry Red.

Here on the lips Nude is at the top, Rose in the middle and Berry Red at the bottom. They are all very natural colours designed to gently enhance what is already there. Berry Red is the favourite here at The Lip Liberation HQ, it has the most colour but still so natural, it can help to brighten the complexion and is the most universal shade.

The mineral pigment used to create the colour and shimmer are nature-identical and not extracted from the earth. These pigments can be found in nature but Weleda have decided to use identical ones that have been made in a laboratory for a few reasons. Quality being one – colours can vary in nature and of course some can contain heavy metals and other contaminants from the earth. There is also the issue of how and where the natural minerals are sourced – sustainability and workers safety can be compromised in the mining trade (need to discuss this in a different post..) Weleda are NATRUE certified and under their regulations using the alternative is allowed –

“NATRUE allows for nature-identical ingredients to be used in cosmetic formulations when the natural raw material is problematic and the nature-identical material can be made without harm to us or to the planet”

The texture is lovely, they are quite thick but not sticky – they just glide on and give lips a gorgeous shine as opposed to a gloss. They have a rose vanilla fragrance and a slight rosey taste too. Their nourishing properties come from castor seed oil, olive fruit oil, organic jojoba oil, sunflower seed wax and organic shea butter, making them suitable for vegans.

NB from the press release – Polyglyceryl-2 Dipolyhydroxystearate (get your tongue around that 😉 – this is generally used as an emulsifier so keeps the ingredients in a product mixing well together)  is plant derived and not from petroleum. Yey – have we mentioned we don’t like petroleum? 😉

These balms are brilliant for keeping your lips in great condition and adding easy relaxed colour. You don’t even need to look in the mirror, just whack them on and know you look good!

Has anyone else been using them?
