I’ve always been a fan of Dr Bronner’s – the ethics behind the brand are impeccable. The family history spans back over 150 years of soap making and political and social activism. The products today come from an organic, fairtrade and sustainable supply chain. Like anything, sustainability has varying levels of meaning for different people; for the Bronners it is all encompassing and part of their DNA. Take Serendipol, their Coconut Oil project in Sri Lanka for example. They couldn’t find enough coconuts that were organic and fairtrade so they set up their own initiative to create them. It was set up after the Tsunami and has since been helping many many farmers and their communities. There is also no wastage – every single part of the coconut is used. The husks are made into fibre for things like ropes and mattresses, the shells are burned for energy, the seed cake is used for animal feed and also some will make compost and go back into the ground to grow more coconuts. It is amazing.
The story begins with soap, however gradually the product line has expanded and of course on here we’re talking about the lip balm. I’ve been using the Lemon Lime one and it’s lovely. It has an ingredient list to be proud of…
Organic Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil*, Organic Beeswax, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Organic Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Organic Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Oil, Organic Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Tocopherol
*CERTIFIED FAIR TRADE INGREDIENTS
but is also amazing for lip health. It nourishes and soothes instantly and feels great on the lips. It is quite soft in texture so just glides on and leaves a slight sheen. I would say that the lime is the more predominant smell and taste but not in a gentle way. This one is definitely a keeper for me.
Has anyone else tried them?
